Therapeutic exercise: the key to saying goodbye to pain

If you are dealing with office syndrome, back pain, knee pain or shoulder pain, or recovering from a sports injury or surgery, medication may relieve your symptoms temporarily. But to get back to living fully without pain getting in the way, you need to treat the “root cause” of the problem, and that means therapeutic exercise.

How is therapeutic exercise different from ordinary exercise?

Therapeutic exercise (TE) is a personalised exercise programme designed by a physical therapist for treatment and rehabilitation, not just for strength or appearance. Ordinary exercise focuses on improving overall fitness, but the key features of TE are:

  • Correcting the root cause: it focuses on strengthening weak muscles and stretching tight muscles, which are the main causes of pain or injury.
  • Safe and tailored to each individual: the programme is designed by a physical therapist based on a detailed assessment and diagnosis, to ensure the exercise is safe and suits each person’s condition and physical ability.
  • In-depth rehabilitation: it retrains neuromuscular control so that nerves and muscles work together correctly.

Key benefits of therapeutic exercise

When you do therapeutic exercise under the supervision of a physical therapist, you get results that go beyond “temporary pain relief”.

  • Reduces chronic pain: strengthens joint stability and corrects poor posture, a cause of long-term pain.
  • Increases range of motion: allows stiff or tight joints and muscles to move fully again.
  • Builds muscle strength and endurance: prepares your muscles to cope with daily activities or sport without re-injury.
  • Restores balance and coordination: helps you move in a balanced way and reduces the risk of falls, especially in older adults or people recovering from injury.
  • Speeds up recovery after surgery: an essential step in getting muscles and joints working effectively and moving with stability again after surgery.

Who is therapeutic exercise suitable for?

Therapeutic exercise programmes are varied and can be adapted to all ages and all kinds of problems:

  • People with office syndrome or back pain: focuses on strengthening the core muscles and correcting working posture.
  • People with knee pain or knee osteoarthritis: strengthens the thigh muscles (quadriceps) to reduce pressure on the knee and improve joint stability.
  • People who need rehabilitation after surgery: helps restore strength and range of motion in the injured joint, following a safe, structured treatment plan.
  • People with sports injuries: targeted rehabilitation of the injured muscles and tendons so that you can return to sport at full performance.
  • People with balance problems or frequent falls: focuses on balance training and muscle coordination to improve walking stability.

Our care process

  • Detailed physical assessment: to identify the cause of your symptoms.
  • Personalised programme: your physical therapist designs a therapeutic exercise programme focusing on posture correction, flexibility, strengthening and neuromuscular training, tailored specifically to your problem.
  • Supervision and technique correction: we supervise you closely to make sure you perform each exercise correctly, which is key to good results and preventing re-injury.
