We are responsible for looking after our own bodies. Before any injection, always ask exactly what is being injected and whether there are any contraindications or precautions, because we know our own bodies best. Basic knowledge is essential, so today let's learn a little more about "steroids".

Who and which conditions are steroid injections suitable for?

- Significant injury or inflammation of the tendons or joints, such as shoulder tendinitis or knee arthritis, that is acute, or recent and severe

Can I go straight back to normal use after the injection?

- Yes, within reasonable limits. A steroid injection suppresses inflammation, which relieves the pain, but if you rush back to using the injured area too much, you may injure it again or the inflammation may return. Ideally, you should have physical therapy after the injection so that you can return to normal use sooner.

Can I have physical therapy after the injection?

- Yes, and we recommend combining the two. A steroid injection suppresses inflammation and reduces pain, while follow-up physical therapy with devices such as laser therapy stimulates repair of the injured area and treats any other problems. However, if shockwave therapy is needed, we recommend waiting about 2 weeks, because shockwave therapy stimulates inflammation again, which counteracts the medication.

Can I have many injections? Is having too many dangerous, and why?

- Before a steroid injection, you should first be assessed by a doctor to see whether your condition is suitable for steroid treatment. The doctor will then calculate an appropriate dose. Having too many injections, or too many in a row, can be dangerous because too much of the drug builds up in the body, doing more harm than good, for example causing bone thinning or tendon rupture.

At our clinic, injections are given by specialist physicians under ultrasound guidance, making the treatment precise and safe.
